Ontario, CA – A hoarding investigation in the City of Ontario has led to the discovery and rescue of more than 50 terrier and chihuahua mixed breed dogs. The Inland Valley Humane Society & S.P.C.A. (IVHS) responded to a property after an initial report was made that approximately 30 dogs needed assistance.
Upon further investigation, IVHS Humane and Animal Control Officers found over 50 dogs living inside the home, separated into different rooms, crates, and boxes. While the owners maintained they were attempting to rehome the animals, they agreed to work with IVHS, recognizing that relinquishment was in the best interest of the dogs, many of whom were young dogs and puppies.
The IVHS veterinary services team has since examined the dogs, determining that, despite their long nails and dirty paws, they were in fair condition. Currently, all rescued dogs are receiving medical care and behavioral assessments at IVHS. Thanks to the dedication of the IVHS team, these dogs now have a chance for a better life.
Residents are encouraged to contact their local humane society or animal control authorities if they suspect mistreatment or neglect of animals in their community. “I want to thank the person who reported their concerns and trusted us to have the animals’ best interests at heart”, said Nikole Bresciani, IVHS President/CEO. “Many times, people don’t want to get involved, but we all have to speak up for these animals who have no voice.”
