exciting new changes!
For decades, the Inland Valley Humane Society & S.P.C.A. (IVHS) has provided core services and lifesaving care to companion animals in partnership with communities across the region. Starting July 1, 2025, IVHS & SPCA will begin a new chapter by unifying with the San Gabriel Valley Humane Society (SGVHS).
BECOME A MEMBER TODAYThe unification with SGVHS represents a critical step forward in expanding animal welfare services throughout Southern California and we are excited about the possibilities this collaboration brings for pets and the people who love them. By coming together, we will both be better equipped to provide care to even more animals and families in need. We each look forward to advancing the mission of compassion and care for all animals in the years to come.
Frequently asked questions
The Inland Valley Humane Society & S.P.C.A. and San Gabriel Valley Humane Society will combine to create one organization. This collaboration between two well-established animal welfare agencies in Southern California will enhance each of our abilities to provide exceptional care and compassion to the animals in our care and the communities we serve. The joining of these two coalitions will be effective on July 1, 2025, and the integration is expected to take up to 24 months.
This transition marks an exciting and transformative period for IVHS, SGVHS, and the broader communities we each serve.
On July 1st, IVHS and SGVHS will unify to form one humane society presence for the people and pets of the Inland and San Gabriel Valley. For residents of the San Gabriel Valley, as well as community partners and rescue agencies, no immediate changes will be seen. The San Gabriel campus will remain open, and community members will continue to interact with the same dedicated staff through familiar channels. Over time, as processes align and teams cross-train, small adjustments will occur.
Animal welfare is evolving, and we both recognize the increasing need to care for animals with complex medical needs, behavioral challenges, the growing emphasis on innovative programs designed to keep pets in their homes through proactive support services.
In early 2024, the San Gabriel Valley Humane Society’s Board of Directors chose to explore the possibility of a consolidation as the best path forward to be able offer more state-of-the-art animal welfare services to the San Gabriel community, while also building organizational resilience and sustainability. After exploring all possible partners, they settled on IVHS as their top choice, and IVHS initiated the conversation with SGVHS later that year. Both organizations began the due diligence process and continued discussions until both boards were satisfied that this was the right decision for each organization. The boards unanimously agreed to proceed with the partnership in early 2025.
Both the SGVHS and the IVHS are first and foremost dedicated to caring for and finding loving homes for animals in our communities, fighting animal cruelty and abuse, and providing resources that help preserve the bond between people and their pets. While some processes may change, animals will remain the focus of the work done in both locations as they have for more than 175 years combined.
Collectively, SGVHS and IVHS have over 175 years of animal welfare experience and success. SGVHS and IVHS have worked together as successful partners for many years.
Several successful animal welfare agencies in Texas, San Diego, Oregon, and Wisconsin have combined in recent years. Cutting overhead costs and streamlining services makes sense to organizations that hope to make every dollar count to help animals in need. SGVHS and IVHS are proud to be part of this emerging best practice in animal welfare.

We will notify the public on March 1, 2025 through local media and social media posts as well as updating our website as we continue to have new information to share. We will also communicate directly with key stakeholder groups throughout the transition to ensure both organizations’ strong relationships are maintained. Most importantly, both locations will continue to provide the critical care and services our communities rely on.
